Another Day

01/20/2019

The nights with David were filled with pleasure and the days with happiness. A few days after finding the soldiers we were eating lunch. The cook made these burgers wrapped in lettuce. Mine was not completely done in the middle and I usually cook mine well done. I mean really well done. One time a family member asked me once if I had burned the burgers yet. This one was not done in the middle but it tasted really good. I was wishing I could cook like him. One of his men came to the table with a map and said to David,” They just called, three more guys are missing. They wanted  to know if we could find them.” David took the last bite of his burger and wiped his hands. David responded,” I hate talking shop during a meal but in this case time can make a difference.” He looked at the map and said, “That’s not anywhere near where the other guys where.” His man said, “No.”  David looked at me and said, ”Could you look at this and tell if you might be able to find them.” I responded, “Sure.” I looked at it for a few seconds then disappeared.

I was back where the other men were in the fence enclosure. It was dark except for the moon, sitting high in the sky, blazing red like a pierced heart bleeding as it pumped. The moon was shining on everything. There were these two small mountains but nothing else there. No fenced area, no tents left, and the wind blowing really hard. The dust and sand had covered everything as if nothing had ever been there. I went back home. Sitting at the table again I told David, “it’s not where the other guys were. In fact, everything was gone. There’s nothing there now. ” He handed me the map and showed me again where they went missing. I kept looking at it and the circle. I pointed at the map and said, “What are the exact coordinates could you write them on the map.” David’s man took the map, copied the info on the map and handed it back to me. I said, “Now write an X on the spot.” He took the map, put an X on it and handed it back. I looked at it and wondered where that was. I popped out of the chair into the desert again.

This time it was pitch black and very hard to see anything. Behind some really large rocks were three guys that were settled down trying to avoid the really strong wind and sand. The wind was blowing the sand so hard that if you were naked it could skin to the bone in a matter of minutes. I crouched down next to one. He looked at me so I put my finger over my mouth, as to say quiet. Then all three knew I was there. I said, “What are doing here?” He leaned into my ear,  ”There was a shoot out and we got separated from the group. We are waiting for light to find our way back.” I leaned in to his ear, “Give me your hand.” He pulled his hand out of his coat and we were gone. We were in a Med tent at his base. There was a really good look woman med tec. I said to her, “Could you take care of this soldier for me a lot of people are looking for him.” Before she could answer. I popped with another. I said, “and this one.”  Then pop the last one. “and this one. Thanks a bunch.” I then said, “I am glad you guys are fine. I have to go finish my lunch. Bye.”

I was now back in my chair. I told David I found them, they were fine, put them in the med tent and how they said they had gotten separated and lost during a shoot out and a bad dust storm. I then went back to finishing my lunch. The cook had made me this great chocolate dessert. That was the last job I did with David. I was happy with David but his ex-wife wanted money and I guess she thought he was a good place to get it. With his ex-wife, he could go places and do things but it is dangerous to be seen with me. So four walls all the time was not appealing to him. I hope he didn’t get me pregnant I don’t want him to come back because of a child. I don’t think we would be happy.
